Mens Soccer Wins Lopsided Match Over Goldey Beacom, 10-1

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – On a hot, steamy Saturday afternoon, the West Chester men’s soccer team simply had their way with the Goldey Beacom Lightning, 10-1.

West Chester (1-1) jumped out to a 4-0 lead by halftime and poured in six more in the second half to put Goldey Beacom (0-2) away.

David Miller started the onslaught with a goal in the 19th minute of the first half. Zac Tassone also helped his team’s effort with a hat trick, potting one in the first half and two in the second. In a strange occurrence in the 85th minute of the game, Tassone’s corner kick deflected off of John Giorgilli of the Lightning for an own goal.

Miller closed out the afternoon cranking out two goals and an assist. Tassone recorded an assist to go along with his hat trick. Tim Fry dished out two assists, and even jumped on the scoring party with one of his own. Goalkeeper Todd Deiter logged 62:08, allowing only one goal, and recording one save. Justin Johnson entered in the 28th minute of the second half, and managed two saves.

For the Lightning, Rob McVey recorded the team’s only goal, and goaltender Garrett Schuler recorded six saves, but allowed 10 goals as he went the distance.

The men will look to get over the .500 mark as they take on Millersville Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.. That game will take place at the South campus soccer field.
